Abstract
A new geomitrid, Etruscotricha folcoi gen. et. sp. nov., discovered in the massif of Monte Calvi, Livorno province (Tuscany, Italy), is described. Number, shape and position of dart sacs suggested that the new taxon could belong to the genus Xerotricha. However, molecular data revealed that the new taxon is clearly differentiated from all other Geomitridae genera analysed, including Xerotricha.Etruscotricha folcoi gen. et. sp. nov. is a narrow range endemic species that is restricted to calcareous debris habitats with low and sparse vegetation.; its populations are scattered and living specimens are rarely found.
Taking into account the available distribution and abundance data, as well as information on habitat quality, the risk category for E. folcoi gen. et. sp. nov. was determined by applying the criteria suggested by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) to support actions aimed at its conservation. Additionally, an updated list of the malacofauna present in the protected area of Monte Calvi is provided.

Viene descritto un nuovo geomitride scoperto nel massiccio del Monte Calvi in provincia di Livorno (Toscana, Italia): Etruscotricha folcoi gen. e sp. nov. Il numero, l’aspetto e la posizione dei sacchi del dardo suggeriscono una possibile affinità con il genere Xerotricha; comunque i dati molecolari rivelano una netta differenziazione rispetto a Xerotricha e agli altri generi di Geomitridae analizzati.Etruscotricha folcoi sp. nov.è localizzata esclusivamente in detriti rocciosi calcarei, tra vegetazione bassa e rada dove è piuttosto rara; è presente in un’area limitata con poche e sparse popolazioni a bassa consistenza numerica.
Dato questi elementi di fragilitàè stata individuata, attraverso l’applicazione dei parametri stabiliti dall’Unione Internazionale per la Conservazione della Natura (IUCN), la categoria di rischio, al fine di sostenere azioni improntate alla sua conservazione. Infine viene fornito, per l’area protetta del Monte Calvi, un elenco aggiornato della malacofauna presente.
